Destiny Aurora is a MUST READ book !

I can't say enough about this book Destiny Aurora. I picked up the book under a week ago. I could not put it down, literally. From the moment I read the first page I was hooked. I immediately associated with the characters and felt drawn to their strengths and sympathized with their weaknesses. I am a HUGE Sci-Fi fan loving all the greats. Destiny Aurora holds its own among that universe. Destiny Aurora was just the right balance of suspense, intrigue, action and drama while still being intellectually stimulating. A bonus was that I was able to read it to my daughter, who is 12! She loved the strong female characures and awesome story as well! I highly recommend this book !!

This is the first SCI-FI I have read in a while and I'm glad I did. Mr. Zanca's story and characters are well rounded and he has a few surprises in store which manage to kick up the suspense. I have to congratulate Mr. Zanca on his ability to keep several character lines running and still tell a good story without getting bogged down in minutia. I hope there is a second book. I believe there could be a franchise here.

I was probably more drawn to that since I like history, geography

As somebody who doesn't read horror or have any particular interest in werewolves, I was still able to rip through it once I got going.

Personally, I thought it got better/more engaging with each passing chapter. I thought the strongest parts were based around the setting and the picture it painted of Haiti and the history of the country. I was probably more drawn to that since I like history, geography, politics etc but it was definitely a huge plus in the book.

I would have liked to know a little more about some of tertiary characters (CoCo's cousin and the priest that travels with them in the final trip, along with some of the history on why Voodoo/werewolves resonates with the people there. However, really liked Asher and how he was portrayed.

Good Concept, So-So Execution

I purchased the book because I found the concept really interesting. I wasn't even aware of the uniquely Haitian concept of the werewolf and with the recent Haitian earthquake, it was certainly timely.

However, the writing quality could certainly be better. There's some good atmosphere-setting imagery, like shrubs dotting a landscape like flies feeding on a rotting corpse. However, there are also some overly-large chunks of exposition that could be broken down or run more smoothly. There are also some too-large indents, like tab got hit twice instead of once. Other times it seems like an extra space was added, so the indents are uneven slightly instead of uneven largely.

Excellent novel! I definitely recommend it for all readers, not just those in love with the horror genre like I am. The background story, filled with so much history and adventure, made it hard to put the book down. I can't wait to see what this author publishes next!

This enormously popular Seminar Study was first published in 1972 and then revised in 1986. This, the Third Edition, is sure to be greatly welcomed by a new generation of students wanting a clear and up-to-date account of the origins and development of the Labour Party, from the late nineteenth century to the general election of 1945. As ever the core of the book is supplemented by a careful selection of documents which are closely linked to the main text. An important feature of the book remains the author�s detailed analysis of the explanations by other historians for the rise of the Labour Party. For this latest edition the author has taken the opportunity to revise and update the book in the light of the latest historiography. The bibliography has also been expanded to include the most important publications since 1986.

Dr Adelman organises his material around the two key questions facing students: firstly, why was the Labour Party formed?; and secondly, why was it able to grow? - ousting, as it did, the Liberal Party as the second party in the state in the years following the First World War, and eventually obtaining - for the first time - an overall majority at the general election of 1945. In exploring these questions the author also covers such important topics as: the development of socialist ideas, trade unionism and the General Strike of 1926, the two world wars and the impact they had on the development of the party, and the role of such key figures as Keir Hardie, Ramsay MacDonald and Arthur Henderson.

About the Author
Stephen Z. Smith retired from the Montgomery Police Department in Montgomery, Alabama in 2001 after 20 years of service. He started his career at nineteen years old as a police cadet working for a year and half before attending the Montgomery Police Academy. He turned twenty-one years old while in the academy and after graduation was assigned to third shift patrol. Throughout his career he has worked in traffic, crime scene investigation and on a high profile zero tolerance drug unit before retiring from 2nd shift patrol as a senior training officer. He retired at 39 years old and is currently employed with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in Alabama as a Crime Scene Technician. He also teaches Crime Scene Investigation to other law enforcement agencies. While with the police department, he organized the local Cops for Christ group in 1992 which led to the creation of the River Region Chaplain Service. This ministry provides chaplains to assist law enforcement officers and fire fighters with pastoral care and emotional support due to job related stress. He is certified through the International Conference of Police Chaplains (I.C.P.C) as a police chaplain and chaplain liaison.

EXCELLENT BOOK!

This book is well written and reveals very interesting aspects of police work. I am a civilian with the MPD and know alot of the people mentioned in the book. Mr. Smith's account of life on the streets opened my eyes to the types of people and situations police officers come across on a daily basis. To me, it is more interesting because of the fact that I know or am familiar with alot of the names that weren't changed. But even someone who doesn't know the people mentioned would enjoy the short stories and reflections. A highly recommended read!

This is a great insight to the daily life of a police officer. You dont realize all that they have to do. Mixed with humor and real life action, this book is a must have! If you live in the Montgomery area, you will find it interesting to see how things have changed etc. It is a good read.

Inspiring and compelling

The stories in this book give such an inspiring insight into police work that we don't normally see. The author takes us with him from the earliest days of his career through some of his funniest, scariest, and most surprising experiences, and I felt as if I were right there with him. I was able to laugh, gasp, cringe, and occasionally wipe away a tear with each episode, and my view of police officers and how they do their job has changed completely. The stories were well-written, descriptive, and compelling, and the theme of the author's faith in God allowed me to see every adventure through the eyes of a young man keeping his faith as it is tested each day. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in police work or who needs a fresh perspective on how men and women in uniform deal with the very real drama they must encounter when they answer a call for help.

Unreadable Filler.

Didn't even finish reading it was so bad. Major complaint, no new or real personal info about Lindsay. Instead, the author would go into boring minute details about peripheral stuff for pages and pages. Example? When Lindsay did "Parent Trap", the author wrote forever about the original film, plus practically the entire story of Disney. Not much written about Lindsay at all. More of a history lesson of movie making trivia.

Over the last 30-40 years, information technology (IT) has revolutionized professional life for millions of people around the world. IT has reduced the need for bulk storage of paper records by organizations, has enabled automation of tasks that were previously repetitive and labor-intensive, and carry them out in a fast and accurate way, has enabled economies of scale, improved efficiencies and enabled new ways of working that were hitherto impossible. In parallel with the rise of IT during the last 40 years, the role of the pharmacist – and the society in which pharmacists work – has changed considerably. Pharmacists are no longer principally compounders of medicines, but they are still responsible for ensuring that the patient receives the correct medicine, ensuring that the patient understands why they should take their medicine, and helping the patient with taking the medicine and being concordant with therapy.

About the Author

R. Michael Feener is Research Leader of the Religion and Globalization Research Cluster at the Asia Research Institute, and Associate Professor of History at the National University of Singapore. Previously he taught at Reed College, and the University of California, Riverside. He has also held visiting professor positions and research fellowships at Kyoto University, �cole des Hautes �tudes en Sciences Sociales (Paris), the University of Copenhagen, The Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art (Honolulu), and the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) in Leiden. Born in Salem, Massachusetts, he was trained in Islamic Studies and foreign languages at Boston University as well as in Indonesia, Egypt, and the Yemen. His books include Shari`a and Social Engineering: The Implementation of Islamic Law in Contemporary Aceh, Muslim Legal Thought in Modern Indonesia, Shiʿism and Beyond: ʿAlid Piety in Muslim Southeast Asia (with Chiara Formichi), From the Ground Up: Perspectives on Post-Tsunami and Post-Conflict Aceh (with Patrick Daly & Anthony Reid), Mapping the Acehnese Past (with Patrick Daly & Anthony Reid), Islamic Connections: Muslim Societies of South and Southeast Asia (with Terenjit Sevea), Islamic Law in Contemporary Indonesia: Ideas and Institutions (with Mark Cammack), and Islam in World Cultures: Comparative Perspectives.

Juliana Finucane received her Ph.D. in Religion from Syracuse University, and has worked in the Religion and Globalization cluster at the Asia Research Institute of National University of Singapore, Wells College, and Syracuse University. Her research areas include the globalization of Japanese new Buddhist movements, and she has done research with members of the Soka Gakkai in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, and the United States. In particular, she focuses on new forms of missionary activity in global and globalizing cities, the use of media to promote religious pluralism, and the relationship of freedom of the press and freedom of religion.
